Macau Millennium College Successfully Approved for a Research Project on International Communication under the China International Communications Group

Recently, the list of research projects on international communication approved for funding under the China International Communications Group (“CICG”) was officially released. The research project titled Research on the Technological Pathways and Applications of Intelligent Translation for Chinese-, English-, Portuguese- and Cantonese-Speaking Patients in Macao, led by Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of Macau Millennium College (“MMC”), was named.

The project focuses on Macao’s multilingual medical service environment and aims to explore technological pathways and practical applications for intelligent symptom translation across Chinese, English, Portuguese, and Cantonese. The project will rely on cutting-edge achievements in artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing to construct efficient and accurate translation solutions for multilingual medical scenarios, providing strong support for cross-language communication between patients and medical professionals.

The approval for funding of this project not only reflects national recognition of MMC’s research capabilities but also provides strong support for advancing the language-intelligent development in the medical and social services sectors in Macao. Through this research, MMC will further serve the practical needs of multilingual communication in Macao, helping to enhance international communication effectiveness and demonstrate the innovative capacity of Macao’s research institutions in cross-cultural communication and AI applications.

MMC stated that the approval marks an important opportunity to further strengthen the integration of industry, academia, research and application. Moving forward, it will advance applied research and the commercialisation of research results in multilingual intelligent translation, contributing to international exchanges and public services in both Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
