Macau Millennium College Holds the “Innovation with Intelligence, Integration between East and West” Inauguration Ceremony and Symposium for Its New Postdoctoral Research Station

On the afternoon of 29 July 2025, the “‘Innovation with Intelligence, Integration between East and West’ Inauguration Ceremony and Symposium for the Postdoctoral Research Station” was grandly held in the auditorium and conference room of Macau Millennium College (“MMC”). This event marked an important step for MMC in advancing high-level talent cultivation and research innovation. MMC leadership, postdoctoral supervisors, postdoctoral research fellows, and representatives from various departments attended the ceremony.

Rector Zhong Weihe stated in his speech that since its establishment in 2001, MMC has remained committed to its core values of “internationalisation” and its distinctive culture of “bridging East and West”. It has consistently focused on cultivating high-quality talents with a global vision and an innovative spirit. MMC highlights “Digital Intelligence+”, with a focus on digital intelligence in scientific innovation, digital intelligence in economy, digital intelligence in society, and digital intelligence in humanities. It has established seven major platforms and is actively applying for new bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes, aiming to drive deep integration of academic research and social development.

The establishment of four postdoctoral research stations in Digital Intelligence in Technology, Digital Intelligence in Language Service, Digital Intelligence in Teacher Education and Digital Intelligence in Management not only provides high-level research platforms for outstanding young scholars but also offers intellectual support for technological innovation and social development in Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Rector Zhong concluded by encouraging the postdoctoral research fellows and supervisors:

First, to aim for the frontier and become research fellows who are “grounded and ambitious”: Focus on international academic frontiers, venture into “uncharted territories”, and align research with regional development needs to make the research outcomes impactful.

Second, to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and nurture “human-machine symbiosis” in innovation: Break down disciplinary barriers, collaborate across fields, and enhance critical thinking through the collaborative use of AI tools.

Third, to stay true to the original intention and pass on the legacy of “academic rigour and nurturing talent”: Supervisors should influence postdoctoral research fellows with rigorous academic standards and broad perspectives, continuing the humanistic spirit.

After the speech, the Rector awarded plaques to the four postdoctoral research stations. The host then read out the list of postdoctoral supervisors and coordinators, as well as the first group of postdoctoral research fellows joining the stations. Dr Peng Sheng, as a representative of the postdoctoral research fellows, gave a speech expressing his gratitude to MMC and his expectations and confidence in future research work.

During the postdoctoral research proposal symposium, supervisors and postdoctoral research fellows had in-depth exchanges about their research plans. The atmosphere was lively, fully showcasing the college’s spirit of encouraging innovation and supporting academic freedom.

This event was not only the inauguration of the college’s postdoctoral research stations but also a feast of ideas and the starting point for collaboration. MMC will continue to uphold the philosophy of “Innovation with Intelligence, Integration between East and West”, striving to create a globally influential research platform and cultivate more high-end talents with a global vision.
