Recently, after a strict review and evaluation, Macau Millennium College (“MMC”) was officially authorised by the United States Professional Teaching Committee to become the TESOL International English Teacher Qualification Exam Centre for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the “Greater Bay Area”). This not only reflects MMC’s professional strength in the field of international English education but also highlights its important role in improving the quality of English teacher qualification certification services in the region.

As the TESOL International English Teacher Qualification Exam Centre for the Greater Bay Area, MMC will be responsible for candidate registration, exam organisation, certificate issuance, and other tasks, providing high-quality, standardised qualification exam certification services for English teachers and education professionals. The authorisation has established a solid platform for the college to introduce and integrate high-quality international education resources, further promoting the professional development of English teachers and the improvement of teaching quality.
To ensure the smooth implementation and effective safeguarding of the TESOL certification system in the Greater Bay Area, MMC has formed an expert committee composed of renowned scholars from both China and abroad. The committee is chaired by Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of MMC, with Vice Chairs including Professor Wang Lifei, Distinguished Professor at MMC, Professor Li Defeng from the University of Macau, Professor Zhang Wenzhong from Nankai University, Professor Zhang Hongming from the Macau University of. Science and Technology, and Professor Huang Guowen from the City University of Macau. The committee members also include scholars from prestigious universities such as the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Peking University, Beihang University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as well as leaders and frontline teachers from primary and secondary education institutions such as Pui Ching Middle School Macau and Kao Yip Middle School. Together, they will provide professional guidance and support for TESOL certification in the Greater Bay Area.
MMC will fully leverage its teaching advantages and abundant educational resources to actively promote the deep implementation of the TESOL certification system in the Greater Bay Area, helping to cultivate high-quality English teachers with global vision and professional competence, contributing to the high-quality development of regional English education, and assisting in Macao’s long-term development into a world centre of tourism and leisure, a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and a multiple-culture exchange and cooperation base with an emphasis on Chinese culture.
