The Cross-Border Data Research Centre is established to address the growing demand for international data collaboration and intelligent cross-border computing for large multinational enterprises. Leveraging Macao’s unique advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, the centre explores the development of an intelligent collaborative computing hub for cross-border data in Macao. The centre seeks to aggregate overseas data—restricted by firewalls and regulations—into Macao in a legal, compliant, and secure manner. The goal is to achieve a cross-border collaborative computing solution where data is stored in Macao, and computing is done in the Chinese mainland, with results relayed back to the intended destinations. The centre envisions creating a “Macao-Hengqin Data Gateway” as a key data bridge connecting international enterprises’ data, facilitating cross-border data processing and supporting global operations and market expansion. This gateway not only offers professional, secure, and compliant data connectivity but also streamlines centralised cross-border data management, aligning with China’s national cybersecurity mechanisms and bolstering national security. The cross-border collaborative computing node model can serve the cross-border data processing needs of both enterprises and national systems, such as BeiDou and remote sensing satellites.
