The Center for China-Portugal Cooperation and Tourism Economy Research draws on Macao’s distinct geographical advantages and its enduring role as a cultural bridge to develop a premier platform for academic inquiry, policy research, and bilateral exchange in the field of China-Portugal cooperation. The Center is firmly aligned with China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road strategy.
Anchored in Macao, the Center reinforces the city’s strategic positioning as a facilitator of China-Portugal cooperation, while cultivating Macao as a key gateway through which the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area connects with Portuguese-speaking countries, and as a strategic outpost for Chinese coastal cities pursuing economic and trade partnerships with Portuguese-speaking nations and the broader Global South.
With tourism economy as its central focus, the Center concentrates on frontier themes including smart cultural tourism, South-South cooperation, and green and low-carbon development. It aims to establish a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, cross-regional, and cross-cultural platform for research and practice—one that propels Macao’s evolution from a regional hub to a true international bridge.
