On 30 April 2026, in celebration of International Workers’ Day and to further deepen local young students’ understanding of the Macao Garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (the “Macao Garrison”), Macau Millennium College (“MMC”) organised a delegation of teachers and students to visit the Taipa Barracks and attend the 20th Open Day of the Macao Garrison.

The event opened with a solemn national flag-raising ceremony. Teachers and students stood in respectful attention and sang the national anthem, demonstrating a strong sense of patriotism. Officers and soldiers of the Macao Garrison then presented a series of impressive military training demonstrations, including integrated combat training, emergency rescue and disaster relief drills, and counter-terrorism operation drills. These displays offered a multi-dimensional view of the real-combat training scenarios and the disciplined bearing of the people’s armed forces in the new era.

MMC teachers and students actively took part in interactive activities such as armoured vehicle simulation training, self- and mutual-rescue training, battlefield protection, and basic tactical movements. Through watching the cultural performance and visiting the military exhibition hall, they gained a deeper understanding of the development history, honourable mission and strong military culture of the Macao Garrison. They also visited the barracks dormitories and logistics support area, where displays of military food and soldiers’ culinary skills offered them a close-up view of the rigorous discipline of the officers and soldiers, as well as the rich daily life within the barracks.

Student representatives expressed that the visit to the barracks was deeply impressive. They were excited by and full of admiration for the country’s advanced military technology and the rigorous training undertaken by the officers and soldiers, and developed a keen interest in and curiosity about national defence development. The students noted that activities of this kind served as a vivid lesson in national defence education, helping young people in Macao strengthen their awareness of national defence and further consolidate the ideological foundation of loving the country and loving Macao.
