The Department of Digital and Intelligent Language Services is a distinctive academic unit established by Macau Millennium College in alignment with the development strategy of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and the digital transformation of the global language services industry. Focusing on the interdisciplinary integration of language, technology, and industry, the Department is committed to cultivating high-level professionals in digital and intelligent language services, advancing cutting-edge academic research, and promoting technological innovation within the industry. It has developed into an influential academic and talent development platform for digital and intelligent language services in Hong Kong and Macao.

Capitalising on Macao’s unique position as a meeting point of Chinese and Western cultures, the Department transcends the traditional boundaries of language disciplines and has established an international, interdisciplinary, professionally oriented, and application-driven framework for academic development. This framework demonstrates the innovative vitality and professional value of language services as a discipline in the new era.

The Department is supported by an international and highly accomplished faculty team with strong academic leadership. Its core faculty comprises distinguished scholars and experts in translation and language services from China and abroad. The team is led by Professor Zhong Weihe, a leading figure in translation education in China and a renowned interpreting scholar and practitioner. The Department has also appointed a group of prominent experts, including Professor Wang Lifei, a leading scholar in the field of language services in China.

The Department is developing a comprehensive system for postgraduate education and plans to offer distinctive master’s and doctoral programmes. The curriculum is organised around three major areas: digitaland intelligent language technologies, language service applications, and language service management. It incorporates cutting-edge developments in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and language big data. Core areas of study include intelligent translation technologies, practical applications of multilingual language services, cross-border language service project management, and the development of language service systems for the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Through a three-dimensional educational model integrating language, technology, and industry, the Department moves beyond the conventional boundaries of humanities education and combines rigorous theoretical training with industry-based practice. It aims to cultivate high-level, interdisciplinary language service professionals who are equipped with advanced language competence, technological capabilities, and managerial thinking and who can respond effectively to global digital transformation.
