Master of Digital and Intelligent Language Services (Proposed)

 

Programme Positioning

Responding to the development of the national digital economy and the evolving needs of the language services industry, this programme aims to cultivate internationalised and interdisciplinary language service professionals with strong foreign language application and translation competence, a deep understanding of Chinese culture and national development, a broad international outlook, and sound professional qualities.

Students will acquire specialised knowledge in linguistics, language technology, localisation, and language services, as well as advanced theories and methodologies in related fields. They will be trained to use working languages and language technologies proficiently, and to develop strong critical thinking skills, information technology literacy, intercultural communication competence, innovation and entrepreneurial awareness, professional ethics, and social responsibility.

Graduates will be equipped to undertake work in localisation, written translation, technical communication, data management, marketing and trade, research, and consultancy across such sectors as business operations, international trade and commerce, international communication, government foreign affairs, training services, and high-tech industries.

 

Programme Objectives

Based on Macao’s strategic regional advantages and oriented towards the economic and cultural integration of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, this programme aims to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals with an international outlook, a strong sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, solid language foundations, and specialised competence in digital technologies.

The programme enables students to systematically master the fundamental theories and practical skills of language services, while developing entrepreneurial awareness, professional ethics, international competence, and professional capabilities in localisation project management, language technology application, data analysis, and decision-making.

Graduates may pursue careers in technology enterprises, multinational corporations, financial institutions, educational institutions, new media organisations, government departments, and international organisations. They will be prepared to engage in digital and intelligent language education, machine translation technology application, corporate language service management, and multilingual data analytics, thereby providing high-level professional talent support for the language services industry and regional economic development in Macao and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification. Preference may be given to applicants whose prior academic background is in languages, education, economics and management, computer science, or other related disciplines.

All applicants are required to take the entrance examination organised by Macau Millennium College. Admission will be granted on a competitive basis.

 

Duration of Study

The normal duration of the full-time master’s degree programme is two years, with a maximum duration of four years. The maximum period of study may be extended to five years for students under any of the following circumstances:

  • students with temporary or long-term physical or sensory disabilities;
  • students whose studies are impeded due to maternity, serious illness, illness requiring long-term rehabilitation, communicable disease, or infectious disease, as certified by the competent health authority or a hospital.

 

Graduation Requirements

Students who satisfy all requirements set forth in the study plan within the prescribed period of study, and who attain passing academic standing, shall—upon approval by the Teaching and Academic Committee—be conferred the degree of Master of Digital and Intelligent Language Services.

*Note: The programme proposed for the 2026/2027 academic year will officially commence operation upon completion of programme registration with the Macao Education and Youth Development Bureau and publication in the Official Gazette of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

 

Doctor of Philosophy in Digital and Intelligent Language Services (Proposed)

Programme Positioning

Leveraging Macao’s distinctive advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, this programme aims to establish a high-level academic hub and collaborative platform for digital and intelligent language services. It will promote integrated teaching and research through university–industry–research collaboration, and contribute to the development of a Sino-Western research and innovation base for digital and intelligent language services.

 

Programme Objectives

Based in Macao and drawing on the internationalised and multicultural strengths of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, this programme aims to cultivate leading professionals in language services who possess a global vision, a strong sense of social responsibility, interdisciplinary innovation capabilities, and industry leadership.

The programme focuses on core areas such as language intelligence, AI-assisted translation, and language big data analytics, while deeply integrating cutting-edge academic research with innovation in digital and intelligent technologies. Graduates are expected to be familiar with international standards in language services, the policies and cultural characteristics of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, and the development trends of the digital economy. They should also possess strong capabilities in academic research, intercultural communication, and international collaboration.

Upon graduation, students will be able to engage in cross-language project management, multimodal resource development, digital and intelligent language education, language intelligence applications, and strategic consulting in multinational enterprises, higher education institutions, think tanks, government agencies, and international organisations.

 

Admission Requirements

(2) students whose studies are impeded due to maternity, serious illness, illness requiring prolonged convalescence, or infectious or communicable disease, as certified by the competent health authority or a hospital.

 

Graduation Requirements

Students who satisfy all requirements set forth in the study plan within the normal duration of study, and who attain passing academic standing, shall—upon approval by the Teaching and Academic Committee—be conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Digital and Intelligent Language Services.
