The Department of Cross-Border E-Commerce is a physical academic unit under Macau Millennium College. Adhering to the school motto, “Cultivating Virtue, Self-Strengthening, Erudition, and Innovation,” the Department is dedicated to cultivating versatile, application-oriented professionals who possess a strong sense of national identity, a global perspective, and an innovative spirit, combined with solid business foundations and digital-intelligence capabilities under the background of global digital economy development. Based in Macao, backed by the Greater Bay Area, and facing the global stage, the Department has built a teaching and scientific research team with international backgrounds, with full-time faculty at its core. The core faculty members consist of scholars with rich teaching and research experience, whose professional backgrounds span e-commerce, international business, supply chain management, data analytics, marketing, and financial technology (FinTech), capable of supporting the Department’s cutting-edge teaching and multi-level research needs.
In terms of academic research, the Department and its associated teams focus on four key areas: Frontiers of Business and Management, Green Economy and Sustainable Development, Data Analytics and AI Applications, and Finance and Risk Control. Over the past two years, the Department’s faculty members have published academic papers in international SSCI and SCI journals across various JCR disciplines. These include prestigious JCR Q1-ranked journals such as the Journal of Business Research, International Business Review, Journal of International Management, International Marketing Review, Energy Economics, and Expert Systems with Applications. These research achievements cover areas such as cross-border e-commerce operations, international market analysis, supply chain management, risk control, and digital-intelligence technology applications, and have been successfully integrated into classroom teaching cases to support curriculum development and talent cultivation.
Guided by the collaborative mechanism of industry-university-research, the Department has made significant progress in integrating academia with industry. The Department has initiated the establishment of the Greater Bay Area Association for Digital Economy and Industrial Innovation Development and formed the Cross-Border E-Commerce Expert Committee. It is also preparing to launch the journal Digital Economy and Industry Studies. Concurrently, the Department has established cooperative relations with the AoZhong Institute of Science and Technology Innovation of Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone and the on-campus Institute of Digital and Intelligent Language Services. By integrating AI language technology with Chinese-Portuguese language services into its curriculum development, the Department has formed an innovative model of “Digital Technology + Language AI + Business Operations.” In addition, the Department has established university-enterprise partnerships with multiple cross-border e-commerce platforms. Through on-campus practical training platforms and a university-level cross-border e-commerce company, it provides students with a real-world business environment, constructing a seamless pipeline of “Teaching – Practice – Entrepreneurship.” Capitalizing on the policy resources of Macao’s role as a “Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, the Department continuously optimizes its faculty allocation and educational resources to meet the global demand for talent in digital trade and cross-border business.
