I.Digital Culture and Tourism Laboratory

The Digital Culture & Tourism Laboratory is a specialized facility established by the College in response to the growing trend of digital and intelligent transformation in the cultural tourism sector. The laboratory serves as a hub for experimental teaching, research innovation, and technology development in digital culture and tourism, dedicated to cultivating high-caliber professionals with innovative thinking and hands-on expertise.

The laboratory features a tour guide simulation platform that closely replicates real-world guiding scenarios, supporting practical applications such as itinerary planning, commentary skills training, and interactive design for intelligent tour guide robots. A dedicated Macau VR Culture & Tourism Content Database has also been developed, housing 8K panoramic and high-definition content of Macau’s World Cultural Heritage sites and iconic landmarks, providing rich immersive resources for teaching and research.

Equipped with a 75-inch large-screen display, a VR editor, and PICO 4 Enterprise headsets, the laboratory enables the construction of realistic virtual environments for the testing and validation of AI algorithms across diverse cultural tourism scenarios. Integrated eye-tracking and EEG devices capture real-time user interaction data, providing a scientific foundation for tourism behavior research.

Spanning disciplines including embedded systems, mobile internet, and IoT applications, the laboratory fosters interdisciplinary innovation and strengthens students’ expertise and creativity in the digital culture and tourism domain — serving as a key platform for developing internationally-minded professionals in Macau.

 

II.Virtual Simulation Laboratory

The Virtual Simulation Laboratory is a comprehensive research and teaching platform integrating cutting-edge hardware with advanced technology, dedicated to VR, robotics, and artificial intelligence education and research.

On the hardware side, the laboratory is equipped with high-performance laptops powered by Intel i7 14700KF processors, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, and GeForce RTX 5070 graphics cards, alongside Dell commercial desktop computers, delivering robust computing capacity for complex tasks. The core VR system features PICO 4 Enterprise headsets with 4K resolution, a 105° field of view, and 6DoF spatial tracking, providing a highly immersive interactive experience.

For data acquisition, Tobii Pro Glasses 3 eye-tracking devices with a 100Hz sampling rate enable precise capture of users’ gaze patterns and movement trajectories. BrainCo multi-channel EEG equipment complements this by analyzing physiological indicators such as attention levels and emotional states, supporting cognitive science research and the development of intelligent interaction strategies for service robots.

Storage and presentation needs are served by a Synology DS224+ NAS system offering 12TB of expandable storage for secure and efficient data management, while a 75-inch large-screen display supports multi-screen interaction for teaching demonstrations and project presentations.

With high-precision tracking, real-time rendering, and powerful data analytics capabilities, the VR Laboratory provides an ideal environment for hotel robot simulation, AI algorithm training, and human-robot interaction design in service-oriented settings.
