The Department of Digital and Intelligent Technology is a key vehicle for Macau Millennium College’s core “Digital and Intelligent+” education strategy. Based in Macao and serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Department focuses on the integrated development of teaching and research in frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, bioinformatics and intelligent control. Guided by the College motto—“Integrity and Self-Strengthening Academic Excellence and Innovation ”—the Department is committed to nurturing high-calibre digital and intelligent technology professionals who possess a cross-cultural understanding of China and the West, original research capabilities and industry-oriented application skills. In doing so, it contributes to the national Digital China strategy, Macao’s appropriately diversified economic development and the upgrading of digital and intelligent industries across the GBA.

The Department has assembled a faculty team with diverse academic backgrounds and extensive experience across industry, academia and research. Team members are graduates of renowned universities in Australia, Canada and mainland China. Their research covers marine intelligent sensing, embodied intelligence, large language models (LLMs), biosignal fusion and cross-border data security, backed by a strong track record in national research projects, papers in leading journals, patents and industry awards. The Department operates a comprehensive laboratory system comprising “one foundation plus three specialisations”—featuring the foundational computer and data-processing platform, the IoT Lab for Marine Ubiquitous Perception, the the Embodied AI Lab, and the Lab for Multimodal Intelligent Health Collaboration. Together, these facilities form an integrated research and teaching platform encompassing computing capacity, operational equipment, sensing technologies and algorithmic support, providing a solid foundation for master’s and doctoral students’ coursework and innovative research.

Drawing on the College’s “hub–domain–course” academic framework and regional collaboration resources, including its industry–academia–research base in Hengqin, the Department continually advances interdisciplinary collaboration and international academic exchange. It is progressively developing a regionally distinctive system for cultivating digital and intelligent technology talent, thereby supporting Macao’s “1+4” industrial development strategy and the growth of the digital economy in the GBA.
