On 28 April 2026, the Seminar on Frontier AI Technologies and Industrial Applications, and Multilingual Multimodal Large Models, hosted by Fuyao University of Science and Technology and the China Society of Image and Graphics, and co-hosted by NewTranx Tech, was held at the Mingde Hall Opera House, Fuyao University of Science and Technology. Attendees included Mr Cho Tak Wong, founder of Fuyao Group and founder and Chairman of the Board of Fuyao University of Science and Technology; Academician He Changchui of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, former Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations; Professor Wang Shuguo, President of Fuyao University of Science and Technology; and experts and scholars from a number of universities, research institutions and artificial intelligence companies. Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of Macau Millennium College (“MMC” or the “College”); Professor Wang Lifei, Vice Rector; Professor Ren Jia, Head of the Division of Digital-Intelligent Technology; and Mr Wei Qiu, Director of the Rector’s Office, were also invited to attend.

The seminar focused on frontier AI technologies, multilingual multimodal large models, intelligent language services, industrial applications, and industry-academia-research collaborative innovation. It brought together participants from Fuyao University of Science and Technology, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, Beijing Normal University, Xiamen University, Hainan University, MMC and other higher education institutions, as well as representatives from companies including NewTranx Tech, Haitian Ruisheng, Sonicloud, MirrorMe Technology and Timekettle. Guests exchanged views on how artificial intelligence can empower education, language services, intelligent hardware, legal translation, transport governance and industrial upgrading.

Professor Zhong chaired the launch session of the “Xiangxu” multilingual multimodal large model. Drawing on the cultural meaning of “Xiangxu” in Chinese civilisation as an ancient term for diplomatic and translation officials, he explained the significance embodied in the name: cross-language communication, mutual learning among civilisations, and connecting China with the rest of the world. He stated that, against the backdrop of the rapid development of artificial intelligence, multilingual multimodal large models are not only an important direction for technological innovation but will also bring new possibilities for international communication, language services, cultural exchange, and talent cultivation.

In his keynote presentation, Professor Wang Lifei provided an in-depth analysis of the current development, market landscape, regional distribution and future trends of China’s intelligent language services industry. He also introduced Macao’s explorations in cultivating high-level talent for digital language services. He noted that, as artificial intelligence becomes deeply integrated with language services, future language service professionals will need not only strong language and cross-cultural competence, but also new capabilities in the use of AI tools, prompt engineering, data processing and intelligent collaboration. With its advantages in Chinese-Portuguese bilingualism, multiculturalism and international exchange platforms, Macao can play a unique role in talent development for digital-intelligent language services, cross-border cooperation, and industry-academia-research integration.

During the seminar, an unveiling ceremony was also held for the University-Enterprise Cooperation Project of the Global Development Institute of Fuyao University of Science and Technology. Representatives from six parties, including the Global Development Institute of Fuyao University of Science and Technology, NewTranx Tech, Fenou Array, MirrorMe Technology, the Research Centre for Digital-Intelligent Language Services of MMC, and the NewTranx Academy, jointly took part in the unveiling ceremony. This marked a step towards deeper cooperation among the parties in talent development, research collaboration, technological innovation and industrial application, with the shared aim of promoting the practical application of multilingual multimodal AI technologies.
MMC attaches great importance to the interdisciplinary integration of artificial intelligence with language services, the digital economy and cross-cultural communication. Its participation in the seminar and the cooperation unveiling ceremony represents an important practice in advancing the College’s “digital-intelligent, international and application-oriented” educational direction, while also building new bridges for cooperation with high-level universities, research platforms and artificial intelligence enterprises in the Chinese mainland.
In the future, MMC will continue to be rooted in Macao, engage with the Greater Bay Area and serve the national development strategy. It will actively seize the new opportunities brought by the development of artificial intelligence, deepen research and practice in areas such as digital-intelligent language services, artificial intelligence applications and cross-border industry talent development, and promote the integrated development of industry and education, science and education, and university-enterprise collaboration. In doing so, it will contribute to innovation in Macao’s higher education and the upgrading of the Greater Bay Area’s digital industries.
