Macau Millennium College Welcomes Its Third Cohort of Postdoctoral Researchers

On 14 May 2026, Macau Millennium College (“MMC” or the “College”) held a ceremony at its Taipa Campus to welcome the third cohort of postdoctoral researchers. The ceremony was attended by postdoctoral supervisors and coordinators, including Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of MMC; Professor Wang Lifei, Vice Rector; Associate Professor Huang Hua, Assistant Rector; Professor Wang Xin, Director of the Department of Digital-Intelligent Economics; and Associate Professor Yang Yanchao, Deputy Director of the Department of Digital-Intelligent Humanities. The ceremony was chaired by Assistant Professor Yang Xinxin, Director of the Postdoctoral Management Office.

At the beginning of the event, Professor Zhong extended a warm welcome to the newly admitted postdoctoral researchers. He noted that MMC is committed to building an international, interdisciplinary and high-level research platform. The development of its postdoctoral workstation is an important vehicle for attracting and nurturing young talent, advancing frontier research and serving regional development. It is also a key initiative for strengthening the College’s research capacity and academic influence. Professor Zhong encouraged the new postdoctoral researchers to remain true to their academic aspirations, focus on the frontiers of their disciplines, and strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration. He urged them to broaden their academic horizons through rigorous research, enhance their capacity for innovation through engagement with practice, and strive to grow into high-level innovative talent with academic excellence, international vision and practical capability. He also expressed the hope that they would contribute their wisdom and strength to letting Macao thrive through education, building Macao with talented individuals, and promoting the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area.

The third cohort of newly admitted postdoctoral researchers, including Zhao Yuanzhen, Chen Jing, Zhuang Yan, Su Ruiqian and Hu Jiangwei, introduced themselves in turn. They shared their educational backgrounds, research foundations, research interests and plans for their postdoctoral research, demonstrating solid academic preparation, clear research thinking and strong development potential.

Professor Wang Lifei gave a detailed introduction to the management requirements for postdoctoral researchers, covering in-station management, research tasks, training objectives, assessment requirements, academic exchange and research outputs. He stated that the College would continue to improve its postdoctoral training and management mechanisms, and would provide standardised management and comprehensive support to ensure that postdoctoral researchers complete their research tasks to a high standard, while supporting young scholars in their academic growth and career development.

Assistant Professor Yang Xinxin introduced MMC’s ongoing research projects, helping the newly admitted postdoctoral researchers gain a better understanding of the College’s research layout, platform resources, team foundations and potential directions for collaboration. This also aimed to help them integrate more quickly into the College’s research system and identify suitable entry points for research and cooperation.

The event also featured a special lecture by Professor Ren Wei of Beihang University, who shared in-depth insights into new issues, methods and trends in pragmatics research against the backdrop of digital technology development. The lecture provided valuable inspiration for faculty members and students, broadening their research perspectives and deepening their academic thinking.

After the lecture, participants toured the campus and gained first-hand knowledge of the College’s teaching and research facilities, disciplinary platform development and educational environment.

In recent years, MMC has attached great importance to the attraction and cultivation of high-level talent. It has continuously improved its postdoctoral training mechanism, actively brought together outstanding young scholars, and promoted research innovation in areas such as digital-intelligent economics, digital-intelligent humanities and language technology. These efforts have effectively enhanced the College’s academic influence and capacity to serve society.

Looking ahead, MMC will continue to use its postdoctoral platform as an important driver of development. Following an international, interdisciplinary and application-oriented development path, the College aims to deepen talent synergy and scientific research cooperation between Hengqin and Macau. By attracting a greater number of outstanding young scholars from home and abroad to establish roots in Macao and cultivate their careers in the Greater Bay Area, the College strives to build a premier hub for high-level talent, a pioneering frontier for scientific research innovation, and a demonstration base for the commercialisation of research findings. This will inject fresh momentum and contribute new strength to the high-quality development of higher education in Macao and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an international centre for science and technology innovation.
