Macau Millennium College Renews the Cooperation and Exchange Agreement with the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia

On 16 June 2026, Professor Zhong Weihe, Rector of Macau Millennium College (“MMC” or the “College”), and Huang Hua, Assistant Rector of MMC, attended the signing ceremony for the renewal of cooperation agreements between the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (“Dong Zong”) and representatives of higher education institutions in Macao, hosted by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao (the “DSEDJ”). During the ceremony, Professor Zhong Weihe signed the cooperation and exchange agreement with Datuk Tan Yew Sing, Chairman of Dong Zong, on behalf of MMC, further deepening educational cooperation and talent development exchanges between Macao and Malaysia.

MMC and Dong Zong have long maintained a solid foundation of cooperation. The renewal of the cooperation and exchange agreement aims to promote educational cooperation and exchange between Malaysia and Macao SAR, strengthen the promotion of Macao higher education institutions in Malaysia, facilitate Malaysian students’ pursuit of further studies in Macao, and build a broader platform for the development of young talent in both places.

Under the agreement, MMC will provide Dong Zong each year with the College’s latest development updates, information on programmes open to Malaysian students, and details of student application and admission requirements. Dong Zong will release admission and promotional information through its website, education fairs, further-study lectures, and other channels, and provide further-study advisory services for students from Malaysian Chinese independent high schools. MMC will also recognise the results of the Unified Examination Certificate (“UEC”) for Independent Chinese Secondary (High) Schools in Malaysia, organised by Dong Zong, as a reference for admission criteria.

The agreement also specifies that Dong Zong will recommend students who meet the admission requirements set by MMC. UEC graduates of Chinese independent high schools who are recommended through Dong Zong will be exempted from the application fee. Both parties may also negotiate the acceptance of UEC graduates recommended directly by Chinese independent high schools and will jointly promote other educational exchange and cooperation projects between the two regions. Both parties agreed that the renewal of the cooperation and exchange agreement will help consolidate existing cooperation achievements, deepen educational connectivity between Macao and Malaysia, and inject new momentum into China-Malaysia educational cooperation and the joint cultivation of young talent. In the future, MMC will continue to maintain close communication with Dong Zong to ensure the effective implementation of cooperation projects and jointly promote the high-quality development of education in both places.

That afternoon, Datuk Tan Yew Sing and his delegation visited the Taipa Campus of MMC, where they were warmly received by Professor Zhong Weihe. The two parties held a symposium to exchange in-depth views on topics such as educational cooperation between Macao and Malaysia, articulation pathways for students from Chinese independent high schools, joint talent cultivation, and the internationalisation of education. The symposium was chaired by Ms Huang Hua.

Professor Zhong Weihe extended a warm welcome to the Dong Zong delegation and introduced MMC’s educational positioning, development plans, disciplinary layout, and distinctive “Digital+” approach. He stated that, in support of the Belt and Road Initiative, MMC is rooted in Macao, oriented towards the Greater Bay Area, and connected to the wider world, and is committed to nurturing innovative talent with cross-cultural literacy, digital and intelligent capabilities, and an international outlook. The College attaches great importance to exchange and cooperation with the Malaysian education sector. It hopes to leverage Dong Zong’s role as a bridge within the Chinese independent high school system to further facilitate Malaysian students coming to Macao for further studies, and to promote deeper and more practical cooperation in young talent cultivation and education between the two places. Datuk Tan Yew Sing introduced Dong Zong’s work in promoting the development of Chinese education in Malaysia, serving Chinese independent high schools, and facilitating students’ further studies. He stated that Dong Zong has long been committed to maintaining and developing Chinese education in Malaysia and to expanding diverse pathways for students from Chinese independent high schools to pursue further studies. MMC has distinctive educational strengths, while Macao enjoys unique advantages in connecting the Chinese mainland, Portuguese-speaking countries, and international education resources. He expressed the hope that the two sides would further deepen cooperation and provide Malaysian students with more high-quality further study options and development opportunities.

During the symposium, the two parties engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the contents of the cooperation and exchange agreement. Both sides agreed that the cooperation will help promote educational exchanges between Macao and Malaysia, further broaden pathways for students from Chinese independent high schools to pursue further studies in Macao, and lay a stronger foundation for talent development, the sharing of educational resources, and international exchange between the two places. In the future, both parties will give full play to their respective advantages to promote the implementation and effectiveness of cooperation projects, jointly exploring new models for China-Malaysia educational cooperation and joint talent cultivation.

Other attendees at the meeting included Ch’ng Chuwn Leong, Secretary General of Dong Zong; Ng Chai Heng, Assistant Secretary General of Dong Zong; Leong Seng Yee, Chief Executive Officer of Dong Zong; Shim Boon Haw, Director of the Student Affairs Department of Dong Zong; Wang Lifei, Vice Rector of MMC; Wei Qiu, Director of the Rector’s Office; and Yang Yanchao, Deputy Director of the Department of Digital and Intelligent Humanities.
