Bian Lixin, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region; O Lam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government; Mao Ning, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson and Director General of the Department of Press, Communication and Public Diplomacy; as well as representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., the Macao Garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the Education and Youth Development Bureau and other organisations attended the final.

Huang Hua, Assistant Rector of Macau Millennium College (“MMC”), attended the award ceremony on behalf of MMC to witness the students’ moment of glory. Chan Wan Hun, a first-year MMC student, delivered an impressive performance in this high-level competition. With her deep understanding of the theme and strong public speaking skills, she won the Merit Award, fully demonstrating the broad capabilities of MMC students, including their concern for national development and their international outlook.

This year’s competition was large in scale and highly competitive, attracting around 170 students from eight higher education institutions in Macao. Under the theme “Leveraging Macao’s Unique Institutional and Cultural Strengths to Promote the Implementation of the Global Governance Initiative”, the competition aimed to further deepen young people’s understanding of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. Notably, Associate Professor Yang Yanchao, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Digital and Intelligent Humanities at MMC, was invited to serve as a member of the judging panel. This not only provided professional evaluation support for the competition, but also reflected MMC’s academic influence and professional strength in related fields.

With meticulous guidance and dedicated preparation support from MMC’s teachers before the competition, Chan Wan Hun successfully advanced to the final. Under the further guidance of her competition mentor, she gave an outstanding performance on the final stage. In her speech, entitled “A Path of Harmony in Diversity”, Chan closely addressed the core ideas of the competition. Drawing on the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” in Macao and the city’s unique background of cultural exchange between China and the West, she vividly explained the role and responsibility of Macao’s young people in promoting global governance. Her speech demonstrated a solid understanding of national conditions and diplomacy, quick thinking and a composed stage presence. With its ambitious vision and thought-provoking content, the speech won high recognition from both the professional judges and the audience. Looking ahead, MMC will continue to uphold its core values of “Integrating the Eastern and Western cultures, focusing on innovation, having a global vision and pursuing excellence” and will continue its efforts to cultivate outstanding talent with an innovative spirit, an international outlook and strong digital and intelligent capabilities.
