Elsevier recently released the 2026 update of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list. Professor Ali Nawaz Khan of the Department of Digital and Intelligent Economy at Macau Millennium College has again been included in the single-year scientific impact list. This marks his fourth consecutive year on the list from 2023 to 2026 and reflects his growing international academic influence.

According to the list, Professor Khan’s primary research field is Economics and Business, and his subfield is Business and Management. In the 2026 single-year impact data, he ranks 13,178th globally and 395th worldwide in the Business and Management subfield. Compared with the previous edition, his position in the single-year impact ranking excluding self-citations improved from 19,539th to 13,178th globally, while his ranking in the Business and Management subfield rose from 567th to 395th.
The World’s Top 2% Scientists database was developed by a research team led by Professor John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University, with the related data made publicly available by Elsevier. Based on the Scopus database, it evaluates researchers using a range of indicators, including citation counts, the h-index, the co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, and authorship position. It identifies influential researchers across 20 major fields and 174 subfields. The 2026 update is based on citation data through the end of 2025 and focuses on the scholarly impact of research rather than publication volume alone.
Professor Khan’s research focuses on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, corporate sustainability, and smart tourism. He actively explores innovative applications of digital and intelligent technologies in organizational management, tourism services, and green development. In recent years, his work has continued to appear in high-quality international academic journals, demonstrating a distinctive interdisciplinary profile and strong international academic influence.
Professor Khan’s inclusion among the World’s Top 2% Scientists for four consecutive years recognizes his sustained research contributions. It also reflects Macau Millennium College’s continued efforts to strengthen its high-calibre academic team and advance research in the digital and intelligent economy and related interdisciplinary fields. The College will continue to encourage faculty members to pursue innovative research at the international academic frontier and in response to Macao’s social development needs. It will also promote closer integration of research with talent development, industry, and community service, further enhancing the College’s research capacity and international profile.
