In line with the development of courses and academic progress, Macau Millennium College (MMC) established a library at the beginning of its founding. The planning of the library began in early 2001, and it officially opened in September 2002. The library is located on the 8th floor of the China Civil Plaza Building at Alameda Dr. Carlos d’Assumpção, the main campus in Macao, and is divided into the book storage area, reading area, and multimedia computer area. Currently, the library’s collection includes books, journals (including full-text electronic journals), newspapers, e-books, and electronic databases, mainly serving the faculty and students of MMC.
The library aims to support the academic research of teachers and students through the collection and use of book and information resources, provide teaching resources and services to facilitate teaching activities, and offer appropriate social consulting services to achieve university education goals. With the efforts of professional staff, the library assists teachers in independent research, guides students on how to obtain and use information, and helps students solve learning problems, thus fully leveraging the library’s educational, cultural, informational, and recreational functions.
Despite its modest size, the Alameda Dr. Carlos d’Assumpção Library is fully functional, including book lending services, designated reference and consultation services (answering reader enquiries, recommending appropriate reference tools, guiding the use of library resources, and providing research consultation services, etc.), electronic resource usage, and interlibrary loan and document delivery services with comprehensive universities and public libraries in Macao (interlibrary loan and document delivery provide readers with non-library-owned books for research and private study).
The library is a distinctive academic resource among higher education institutions in Macao, particularly excelling in electronic resources, humanities, and management collections. Its holdings are thoughtfully curated, with a strong emphasis on foreign-language books, journals, and digital materials. Notably, the library has forged deep collaborations with libraries across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, exploring innovative models for regional resource sharing and integration.
The library will focus on developing its collection and establishing interlibrary cooperation and resource sharing with renowned libraries from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, pursuing cross-regional collaboration between the digital VR library and physical libraries. It will continuously introduce new technologies from both domestic and international sources to provide high-quality management and services to readers. As MMC’s courses and student scale expand, the library will strive to provide a new academic research and shared learning space for the faculty and students. In the future, it plans to open to all Macao citizens, giving back to society and helping MMC fulfil its mission.
The library’s resources serve a diverse academic community, offering relevant, up-to-date, and easily accessible information. Designed to align with MMC’s teaching and research goals, these resources support faculty development, academic innovation, and student learning, ensuring a seamless flow of knowledge across disciplines.
The library subscribes to various databases based on MMC’s educational, teaching, and research needs, including the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, Duxiu.com, Bailian Cloud Library System, Chaoxing Huiya eBooks, and New Knowledge Academic Discovery System. It enables access to over six million types of books and more than 410 Chinese and foreign language databases for retrieval and document delivery.
